Hope despite challenges - Why not all children can be admitted for surgery

At the Paranaque Hospital in Manila, the children - who often come from far away with their families - face major challenges. Not all of them can be admitted for surgery. The decision as to whether a child can undergo surgery or not depends on various medical criteria. Despite obstacles, it is important to maintain hope and confidence for all affected children.

Doctors must carefully consider whether the surgical procedure is tolerated by the child. Aspects such as the child's health, possible risks and chances of success of the operation are taken into account. Many of the small patients have previous illnesses such as heart defects, lung diseases, tuberculosis etc. and an operation may therefore be too risky

Through a thorough preliminary examination and assessment of all relevant factors, the doctors make an informed decision as to whether an operation can safely be carried out for the affected child. It is a responsible task that is approached with a lot of care, expertise and compassion to ensure the best possible outcome for each child.

You can already feel the solidarity and warmth with which the residents show their support for the children's upcoming operations. From the ASK Foundation arranging accommodation for the families to providing food and transportation, everyone contributes to making this mission a success. The dedication and generosity of the local people is overwhelming and shows how committed they are to the well-being of the young patients. Their commitment makes it clear that this community is more than just spectators, but active partners in the fight for a better life for their children.
