Christal Jane came to Operation Restore Hope’s screening in 2005 aged 2 with a wide bilateral cleft lip and palate. Christal Jane’s older brother John also has a bilateral cleft lip and palate and their mother had a unilateral cleft lip and palate as well.
Demographics to date on our patient base in Caloocan shows that approximately 50% of this group can identify a relative within 2 generations with a cleft deformity. In 2005 we were able to do some dental work on Christal and repair her lip. In 2006 we repaired both Christal’s and her brother John’s palates and in 2007 both the Alvia children were enrolled in our speech pathology program.
We are delighted to have our paediatric health, dental and now speech pathology programs as we have services to offer our post-operative children to ensure their ability to function in school while simultaneously monitoring the aesthetic nature of their surgical results through their growth phases.
